End Of Season Area Development Group Meetings 2008. - Posted by Iain Stewart WDO @ 16:34:27
Notice of 2 x Area Development Group Meetings:
1)Clyde Sharks Area Development Group - Mon 14 Sept '08 @ 6.30pm, Kelburne C.C.
2)Dumfries & Galloway Area Development Group - Thu 17th Sept 6pm, Nunholm.

End of Season meetings for the 5 Development Groups are being set-up for September, with another to be held in Nov/early Dec to move things forward, in readiness for 4 consecutive monthly meetings from January 2009 (Jan, Feb, Mar & Apr).
• I will be inviting Local Authority sports development officers and Active Schools to meetings
• I aim to ensure agendas are of interest to Clubs and encourage Club attendance at meetings – Agendas to include:
- TOP Club
- School-club links
- Development planning
- Funding streams / how to apply
- Peer education
In short these forums are not just to run the Area u13/15 representative teams but are to act as surgeries for clubs in each area. With 20+ clubs with junior sections, 40+ clubs in the area and 14 local authorities also, I and the Natonal Development Manager feel this is the best way to meet the needs of clubs and members. In special circumstances a 1-2-1 meeting between club and Development Manager can be sought but the first port of call is the Area Group Meetings.

Development Web Launch/groundsmanship Reminder - Posted by Iain Stewart WDO @ 15:22:46
The FOUNDATION PART B COURSE (Autumn Renovation and Winter Maintenance) is being held on Saturday 6 September 2008 at Boghall, Linlithgow (West Lothian Cricket Club). The day starts at 9am and is scheduled to end around 4pm. Those taking part require to provide their own food and refreshments.

Applications should be made to the Institute of Groundsmanship ("IOG"), NOT to Cricket Scotland.

CricketScotland.com now has a 'Development' web page that will, in the near future, become a mini-website full of useful and up-to-date info! Click on 'Development' on the horizontal list of menu options below the main header.

REMINDER IOG/ECB Groundnamsnship Level 1 (B) @ West Lothian Cricket Club, Linlithgow. 6 September 2008, 9am to 4pm. The simplest way to book this is to go to the IOG website (www.iog.org), download the booking form and send it to IOG direct.

From the beginning of season 2009 every National League club will require to have a minimum of one person who is qualified to at least IOG Foundation (parts A and B) level and is also active in ground preparations for that club.

In the interest of assisting clubs to achieve this requirement, and of improving playing facilities generally, there will be NO CHARGE for Cricket Scotland member clubs for this course (please mark this on page 2 of the two-page form).

Academy U14s - Posted by Iain Stewart WDO @ 12:05:46
The Under 14 Academy Festival, last week in Edinburgh, was hit by rain. One day was played indoors as a fun tournament to pass the time, and then on the final day, on an astroturf wicket at the Gyle, Ireland Under 13s played Caledonia Academies Under 14s and the Western Academy Under 14s played the Eastern Academy Under 14s. Western Academy Under 14s were 67 all out in 20 overs, a total passed by the Eastern Academy Under 14s with an over or so to go. The first day had seen the Western Academy Under 14s denied victory over the Caledonia Academies Under 14s when torrential rain caused the match between the two - again played on astroturf - to be abandoned four overs from the end.

Academy U18s - Posted by Iain Stewart WDO @ 16:17:54
Western Academy Under 18s lost to Caledonia Cricket Academies Under 18s at Stirling County's New Williamwood ground today. Again another West age-group side struggled to apply themselves with the bat for any significant length of time. Bundled out for 67, Caledonia got it for two down. The teams' game on Wednesday was a washout, but they ran Scottish Universities close yesterday.

Steering Group - W D C U Saturday League - Posted by Jim Murphy @ 21:07:35
NEWS POST: **Urgent** - please read carefully!

The Chairman's (Tom Halpin) 'Steering Group' met recently to plan the way forward for the WDCU Saturday League. They are working on the premise that this League is a Saturday League and that all games should be played on a Saturday. A match will only be played on a Sunday IN A TRULY EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCE. This stance has wide support although it is recognised that this may not be universally welcomed. There is support for a separation of the Saturday and Sunday Leagues.

Every TEAM will be required to have a dedicated pitch / ground. In the event of a Club having or wishing to have 2 teams in this Saturday League (or 1 in the National League and one in the WDCU Saturday League) then they will,of course, be able to share this ground between the two teams -alternately home & away. In the event of a Club having 3 or 4 teams in or wishing to be in the Saturday League (or 1 in the National League and others in the WDCU Saturday League) then it is a requirement that they have 2 grounds (to allow 2 home fixtures on the same day Saturday -failure to have these two grounds will not be considered to be a 'TRULY EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCE'. Any Club /or team that does not have any such a dedicated ground will, in consequence, be requested to join Sunday League -there being much less strain on facilities on a Sunday.

This is the main thrust of the group at present although other standards may well be looked at including: quality of playing facilities, standard of teas, standards of umpiring by 'Club' (Batting Side) Umpires, possible compulsory provision of a 'neutral umpire' from every team every week to officiate at a match involving another 2 teams. The aim is to improvement standards.
It recognised that there is a lack of local authority pitches and persuasion is required to try to increase the number of new cricket facilities.

It is also anticipated that there will be a major increase in the number of sides participating in the Sunday League. This league will be restructured and formalised to allow a wide range to cricket to be played all the way from intense competitive cricket to purely recreational cricket and, hopefully, everything in between.

There will be no exceptions to these conditions.
